Today I want to share simple steps to help you declutter your December so there’s more room for peace, presence, and Jesus in this season.
1. Ask God what matters most this month
Before you add one more thing to your calendar, pause and ask:
- “Lord, what matters most to You for me and my family this December?”
- “What do You want my heart to remember from this season?”
Maybe it’s:
- Creating a peaceful atmosphere at home
- Protecting your health and energy
- Making space to sit with Him in quiet
- Being present with a few key people instead of trying to please everyone
Write down 3 words you want to describe your December
(for example: peaceful, present, joyful).
These words become your filter for what you say yes and no to this month.
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…” – Colossians 3:15
2. Release one “should” that’s stealing your peace
December comes with a lot of invisible pressure:
- “I should host.”
- “I should go to every event.”
- “I should buy more to prove I care.”
- “I should be able to do what I used to do.”
Many of those “shoulds” didn’t come from God.
Instead of asking, “What do people expect from me?” try asking:
- “Lord, what are You not asking me to carry this year?”
- “What can I lovingly release so I can walk with You in peace?”
Maybe you release:
- A tradition that no longer fits this season
- The pressure for everything to look perfect
- The guilt over having less capacity than you used to
Letting go isn’t selfish. It’s often obedience when God is leading you into a new rhythm.
Write down one “should” you’re ready to lay at Jesus’ feet this December.
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
3. Schedule small pockets of presence
Your calendar won’t clear itself.
If you want space for God and rest, you’ll need to make room on purpose.
Look at the next couple of weeks and choose:
- One evening to stay home, light a candle, and simply rest
- One morning to wake up a few minutes earlier for coffee and Scripture
- One short walk where you leave your phone behind and just breathe and talk with God
These aren’t “extras.”
They’re the places where your soul catches up with your body.
Ask:
- “Where can I build in a small pocket of presence with You this week, Lord?”
- “What needs to move or shift so I can actually receive Your peace?”
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10a
