There was a time in my leadership career when I believed being the first to volunteer, solving every problem, and working longer hours made me a better leader.
I wanted to be known as dependable.
Capable.
The one people could count on.
And for a while…
that approach brought success.
But eventually I realized something unexpected.
The very success I had worked so hard to build began pulling me away from the things that mattered most.
Looking back, I don’t regret working hard.
I do wish I had understood sooner that every “yes” carries a hidden “no.”
When we say yes to everything…
we quietly say no to something else.
Sometimes…
we’re saying no to our families.
Sometimes to our health.
Sometimes to rest.
Sometimes even to the unique calling God has placed on our lives.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
Where has success—or simply the desire to be helpful—caused you to lose sight of what matters most?
What might God be inviting you to release so you can give your best energy to what He’s truly called you to steward?
Leadership isn’t about doing more.
It’s about faithfully discerning what deserves your very best.
Sometimes the most courageous leadership decision you’ll make…
is deciding what not to carry.
Lead well.
Live faithfully.
Stay steadfast.
Steadfastly,
Angie
